Butler In Phil Gordon’s first poker book, Little Red Poker Book, he talks about a poker player he has watched online who for the most part completely decimates the tables every time he played, and for high stakes. He refers to the player as Massive Online Winner, and though Phil never reveals who that person is, his description of the player’s style gives a nice inside view of one style of playing poker. The main approach employed by the player Phil Gordon refers to as Massive Online Winner was this player would fundamentally play the most aggressive game possible. He would come in with a variety of diverse hands before the flop. Then, when the flop came, he would either go all-in or fold to another bet. He would bet this way any time he had flopped a set, a straight, a flush, or two pair, and he’d also bet the same way with a gutbuster straight draw, with a flush draw, and with an open ended draw. Though this style seems ridiculous, Phil Gordon describes its effect. Players had absolutely no understanding of how to respond. They could never know if he had the nuts or a draw, and a lot of times they’d call off their whole stack with second pair trying to catch him. But more often, the player would have at least top pair and therefore end up getting it all from whoever came trying to get him. More often, people would fold and he’d pick up the pot.

Stack Size Your stack size is one of the many things that you need to consider when deciding just how you’re going to play a poker hand. The size of your stack determines the power that you hold over your opponents, because the more online poker money that you’ve got, the more money your opponents stand to lose to you if you’ve got the best hand. Depending on the size of your chip stack, you may want to play more aggressively or you may want to tighten down and let your opponents duke it out. For instance, if you’re the big stack at your poker online table, you have the advantage of being able to put each of your opponents all in whenever you’d like. On the other hand, if your stack is closer to the bottom of the barrel, it may be advisable to tighten up your game and wait for some decent cards to come your way. Before you act, take a mental note of your stack size and make sure that what you’re about to do is the best decision.

One of the most important strategic factors in poker is your position in the betting order. Position in online poker can be compared to real estate value: Location, location, location.

The players in early position are always at a disadvantage because they must act first before anyone else. Those sitting in the blind seats will have to act first in every round of betting post-flop and the player to the immediate left of the big blind goes next. No matter what cards they are holding, if the flop misses their hands, they really have no alternative but to check and fold to any bets. Early position online poker players have the least information to use for decision making.

Middle positions fall from seats 4-8 (at a table of 10) in the betting order. These players have seen what everyone did pre-flop, including the blinds, and have some information about the other players’ hands. Strong hands, like over cards to a raggy board, can be played in middle position when no raise comes out. But since there are still players betting behind these seats, there is still some vulnerability to raise. When in a middle seat with a hand you don’t want to call a raise with, don’t bet it in the first place.

Late position seats have the biggest advantage because these players can base their decisions on the other players’ actions after the flop. Whoever is sitting to the right of the button is in the “cut-off” seat because a raise here could force the button to fold, and usurp last position for betting.

And by noobs I really mean poker neophytes. These are the players who are just learning the rules and have no idea about what the term “making plays” even means. They are the players who are impossible to bluff because if they have a pair, then they think they have the winning hand. They’ll draw to the river despite the lack of pot odds. But here’s how we react. We call them donks. We call them fish and berate them. But what we’re really doing, only we don’t realize it, is we are projecting our own level of play on them when in reality they don’t know what we know.

We get in situations with these players who are still wet behind the ears and expect them to notice and give us credit for our check-raise bluff on the turn, when to them the term itself is a foreign language. What we’re doing is overplaying our cards. And it’s hard a lot of the time to not give people credit for knowing such elementary terms as pot odds and turn and river.

So when you get on a table with this player and you want to automatically label him as a super aggressive donk who plays on a whim. You’re probably partially right. The player is probably playing on a whim. But observe this player and see how he reacts when different moves your recognize are played on him and they don’t work the way they’re “supposed to.” If you notice a pattern, it may just be that you have a player who is very new to the game. So don’t degrade him for not recognizing your “brilliant” plays, instead, just let your cards talk when you’re in pots with him. Get in there where it’s almost impossible for you to get out drawn, or when you have a monster draw and he’s not betting enough to keep you off your draws. Sometimes you have to just stop overplaying the game, and let the chips fall where the cards tell them to. ks muc8 r

MLE Pyrotechnics is host to this for the 2nd go and is having the event in the grounds of the Duke of Rutland’s family house with the crowds acting as judges.

One of the organisers Vanessa Lawrence, said: “It’s a really good place to be having such a night. The fireworks reflect as if by magic in the liquid as they are set off from behind the lake.”

Visitors will be treated to three companies from across the country vying for that extra wow factor to win over the audience’s voting.

The firms are Celebration Fireworks from Evesham, Pyromania Displays, Knaphill in Surrey and Spyrotechnics from Chesterfield with each putting on a 10 to 15 minute display to music. But the extravaganza doesn’t wrap up on that point.
